Driven By Strength
A spotlight on one of our sophomore lifters.
Manuel Zamora is next up in our athlete spotlights, he has been powerlifting for about a year and a half now. Before getting into the sport, he trained bodybuilding on his own, but powerlifting was always the goal. He was finally able to pursue it after joining the team at CU Denver. One of the main reasons he started lifting is a common one, to get stronger, and he saw powerlifting as the best way to do that.
Manuel is currently a psychology major in his second year and, like a lot of students, is still figuring out what he wants to pursue for a career, this is something he spends a lot of time thinking about.
One of his main goals this year is to win a powerlifting meet with real competition. He has competed in three meets so far. He didn’t win the first two, and while he technically won the third, there was no one else in his class, so he doesn’t consider it an actual win.
One piece of advice that has stuck with him is: “Give it all you’ve got, and then some.” Something he uses in both his training and his studying. We wish Manuel the best in his meets and school and can’t wait to see him in next competition.
