CU Denver Swim Heads to DU
CU Denver Swim Club Travels to the University of Denver for a Competitive Swim Meet for their second meet of the spring semester.
CU Denver Swim will travel to the University of Denver for its next swim meet at the El Pomar Natatorium at 10:00 AM MST on February 15th. The competition takes place right after a regional event at Colorado State in Fort Collins, at the Edora Pool Ice Center, on February 8th.
Swimmers to watch in the upcoming meet are Co-Captain Kinsey Varner, who placed 8th out of 15 swimmers in the 50 Yard Backstroke, with a time of 32.25 seconds. Which is 2 seconds off from qualifying for nationals in North Carolina. Captain, Anna Cattles, who placed 2nd in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:45:16 seconds, keep an eye out for her 50 Yard Breast, 100 Yard Breast, and 200 Yard Individual Medley. Alhassan Sulaiman, who didn’t complete the last meet, is competing in the upcoming DU Meet with a record time of 24.75 seconds in the 50 Yard Freestyle in last semester’s Regional Event. Another swimmer competing in the meet is Ian McGlashan, who recorded a time of 54.88 seconds in the 100 Yard Freestyle in last semester’s regionals.
When Ian McGlashan was asked about the importance of competing in these types of meets and why you chose to do it, he said, “Competition is important because it pushes us to be better. I choose to compete because I like to push myself beyond what I think I can do.” When asked about team energy when it comes to meets, he said, “The energy of the whole team cheering you on in an important race is unmatched.” When talking about some personal season goals when it comes to the DU Meet and beyond, Julie Abbott said, “To get 1:25/1:26 on the 100 breaststroke and to push myself outside my comfort zone by swimming the 500.” Then, when asked about personal records, she said, “To continue to make pr’s on my 100 free. This season I was able to get my best time of 1:08!” Best of luck at your upcoming swim meet at the University of Denver at El Pomar Natatorium!
